Cannibal Corpse – Torture – Review

What is there to be said about Cannibal Corpse that hasn’t already been said? Yeah I really don’t know either. Seriously this is Cannibal Corpse’s 12th full length album, and 24th year of their existence, holy shit. So, Torture brings twelve new tracks from the OG death metal titans, sounds good to me. The intro track Demented Aggression shows the band is still pissed and likes to play fast.

As the album moves steadily foreword there isn’t much lightening up or slowing down, just devastating brutal death metal. I thought this was interesting quote from Alex Webster on the album, “We want all the songs to be brutal death metal, but we also want them to be instantly identifiable from one another, and that’s something that is definitely true of the songs on Torture.” Pretty spot on perspective the songs really don’t bleed into one another like a lot of modern death metal albums.

The riffs are about as punishing as the violent growls from George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. Overall this album is pretty devastating, my favorite track is Encased in Concrete. It is just truly astonishing how the band has kept itself relevant without any dramatic changes in style. Some may say their better years are behind them and that may be true but Torture certainly shows the fire has yet to go out. It doesn’t feel rehashed garbage and it just rips and punishes like a sludgehammer to the face. Death metal fans this is an essential pick up. The riffs still slay, so I will continue to listen.
