Brokencyde – The Best Of BC13 – Review

By Admin  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Even though the name of this site is Bring On Mixed Reviews, and we like to keep a level head with reviews,  it’s noticeable at times that we will purposefully cover albums that are sure to be plenty awful with the expressed consent of ripping them a new musical asshole. In fact, BrokeNcyde is one of only a few bands that has been on our chopping block several times. Each time showing off how little musical maturity and technique they can exert and still be able to sell out shows to impressionable tweens. Covering their mediocrity had become a sort of tradition, but it wasn’t until I received their latest money grab, the “Best Of” (they have songs people would like to hear again? weird.) effort “The Best Of BC13,” with an included personal note, “Fuck You <3 – Brokencyde” that it finally cemented in my mind the correlation between the  bands music and a need to vomit bile……. from my ears. read more

Brokencyde – Guilty Pleasure – Review

By Admin  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Another year, yet another musical abortion from the unapologetic, crunkcore four-piece, Brokencyde. Even after critics (ie. anyone with ears and a computer) panned the band’s first album “I’m Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It!as well as its 2010 sequel “Will Never Die,” BC some how has amassed enough preteen followers to warrant the release of another record, which has been titled, “Guilty Pleasure.” I’ve seen the same bizarre set of circumstances when ever Black Veil Brides some how finds a way to sell more that five records — sometimes the world is just a twisted little bunch of irony. read more

Brokencyde – Will Never Die – Review

By Admin  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Release Date: November 9th, 2010
Record Label: BreakSilence Records
Genre: Dancecore

The blatantly obnoxious crunkcore band Brokencyde has obviously been trolling several music-related websites and have seen what people have been commenting about the band. They then must have named their second full-length “Will Never Die” for all the posts that read something like, “These guys really should die in a fire…..quickly.” I won’t blame the posters of said material in this case because much like recent acts such as The Millionaires, LMAFO, and 3Oh!3, this new wave of disco-core is possible some of the most misguided and brain-less assembly of notes. read more

Jeffree Star – Beauty Killer – Mini Review

By Admin  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Release Date: September 22nd, 2009
Record Label: Popsicle Records
Genre: Electronica Rock

What used to only be a problem for guys at last call looking for leftovers to take home and ignoring the slight lump on “her” throat and crotch, has now infiltrated our music. “Her” now-cliche growing up gay lifestyle, androgynous appearance, and love for all things materialistic and trashy, have helped Jeffree Star amass a city’s population in fans. I feel I must do my due diligence and comment/warn about his recent record, “Beauty Killer.” The sad thing is that I’m not even one of those people that just hates Jeffree for being a stuck up “tranny,” if you will. I have much deeper concerns. Concerns that tend to sneak into this years Warped Tour, with his friends Millionaires and Brokencyde, and musically defecate on their fans why they await with open arms and open mouths. Not to mention the fact that J. Star’s electronica rock is rehashed and tired, and the lyrics are mind-numbingly dreadful (not that he wrote them all himself anyways). And even with enjoyable features on the record, such as Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio), Breathe Carolina, and Kyle Castellani (Nural), the album still can’t get its head out of mediocrity. “Beauty Killer” is the anthem for all those teenage girls that practice self hate and listen to trends and slutty garbage. Well at least Marilyn Manson has some company in the “is that a girl? no wait its a guy” club. ~Staff
Score: .5/5

Mixed Thoughts On Crunkcore – Editorial

By Admin  //  Editorials  //  No Comments

scene

Ever since the overwhelming emergence of bands that fit into the genre “crunkcore,” “screamo-synth,” and the like, I thought everyone should take a second to ponder the reason they are popular enough to stick around. Is it simply because they are the brain child of some marketing wizz, who is content on selling over-hyped and under-qualified music to the masses? Or is that we all secretly wish to be rock stars without the time, energy, talent that it takes to truely show merit in the music industry. It seems  that adoration for groups like these only seeks to reinforce a plausible yet ridiculous future where “Hey, we could do this.” read more

BrokeNCYDE – I’m Not A Fan..But The Kids Like It! – Review

By Admin  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Release Date: June 16th, 2009
Record Label: Break Silence Records
Genre: Crunkcore

Seeing that I was bushed one night and was looking for something to take my anger out on, I thought I should release my anger on something that deserved it for once. Enter Albuquerque, NM’s four-piece “crunkcore” band brokeNCYDE. Now I have weighed the hype for and (overwhelming) against the band and its “music.” After the release of the groups earlier EP “BC13,” a full-length was inevitable. Then spawned brokeNCYDE‘s new record “I’m Not A Fan..But The Kids Like It!” which was met with harsh words from critics and I must confess, there will be some from me too. read more
